Dr. Kristyn Silver-Brook, DC at Light + Bone Chiropractic in Encinitas is a Webster Certified prenatal chiropractor, doula, and Doctor of Chiropractic who specializes in care for expecting mothers, postpartum recovery, and women's health. WHY CHIROPRACTIC CARE DURING PREGNANCY IS DIFFERENT
Pregnancy asks the body to do something extraordinary. The pelvis shifts. The lumbar curve deepens. The sacrum remodels. The jaw, abdomen, and nervous system all respond to the hormonal and structural changes happening week by week. Most of the discomfort women experience during pregnancy — low back pain, sciatica, pubic symphysis pain, round ligament tension, rib tightness — is the body trying to adapt to forces it wasn't prepared for.
Prenatal chiropractic care — done correctly — works with these changes rather than against them. The goal is not to force the body into a "normal" position. The goal is to support optimal alignment so the pelvis has room, the nervous system has integrity, and the body can do what it already knows how to do.
WEBSTER TECHNIQUE — WHAT IT IS AND WHY IT MATTERS
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment protocol developed for pregnant women. It focuses on the sacrum, the SI joints, and the round ligaments — the structural triangle that directly affects how the uterus sits and how the baby can position.
Dr. Silver-Brook is Webster Certified through the ICPA. Regular Webster adjustments throughout pregnancy can support:
Pelvic alignment and balance — reducing tension in the uterine ligaments
Optimal fetal positioning — creating space for the baby to move freely
Reduced low back and sacral pain
Nervous system regulation
Labor preparation — a balanced pelvis moves more efficiently
PELVIC, ABDOMINAL, AND JAW BODYWORK
Beyond the spine, Dr. Silver-Brook works with three areas deeply interconnected during pregnancy: the pelvis, the abdomen, and the jaw. These three regions share fascial and neurological connections that affect the entire body. Tension in the jaw has a direct reflexive relationship with pelvic floor tension. Abdominal restrictions can limit the baby's movement. Pelvic floor tightness often shows up as hip restriction or low back pain.
POSTPARTUM CARE — THE FOURTH TRIMESTER
Dr. Silver-Brook's postpartum care addresses sacral and pelvic realignment after birth, abdominal wall recovery, nervous system regulation, breastfeeding posture, and emotional and energetic integration.

So how do I know if I need a chiropractic adjustment?
Dr. Jeremy explains the signs—posture, energy level, disease, and so forth—that indicate your body needs chiropractic care.
Best chiropractic experience I’ve had. They truly care about all of their patients. Dr. Brook really listens and has given me in-office and at-home stretches along with some dietary supplement advice. Being a general contractor and someone who plays soccer 3 times a week, I’ve done a lot of damage to my body that has made it a rough journey through my latter 30’s. Dr. Brook has allowed me to keep up my physical lifestyle as I enter my 40’s. So grateful.
